Located in Huangpu District of Shanghai, People's Square of Shanghai is the transport hub, and political, economic, cultural and tourist center of Shanghai, as well as one of the most important landmarks in Shanghai. People's Square is a garden style square which integrates finance, administration, culture, transport and commerce. Shanghai Municipal People's Government is located on the north of the square, Shanghai Grand Theater on the northwest, Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall on the northeast, Shanghai Museum on the south and the People’s Avenue in the middle. There are 17-meter-wide green belts on both sides of the square which adds up to a total area of 80,000㎡.
As the municipal building, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Shanghai Museum, Nanjing Road Walk Street, and Madame Tussauds Shanghai are all close to the People's Square, visitors are advised to pay a visit to those scenic spots while you are at the People’s Square.
As a recreational district, People’s Square is a perfect place for you to stroll around and learn about the daily lives of the locals. Though the green land at People’s Square is not very spacious, the trees there are luxuriant and provide homes for thousands of doves. If you get tired from walking, you can have a rest on a bench and feed the doves. In the center of the square, there is a fountain which sprays water for a certain time every half an hour in the evening. As a great place to enjoy the cool in the open air, you’ll find many children and adults playing around here in summer.
Underground in the People's Square, there are the Hong Kong Shopping Center and the Dimei Shopping Center selling various fashionable clothes and accessories, nail salons and dessert stores. The entrances to those shopping malls are in the northeast and southwest of the square and are connected to subway stations. There is an old Shanghai 1930 Amorous Street near the No. 2 entrance of the subway underground, displaying the appearance of old Shanghai in the 1930s. It is part of the city planning exhibition hall.
Equipped with a large number of terminals of public transport lines, People's Square is an important transport hub in Shanghai. Metro Line 1, 2 and 8 also pass through here. The nearest subway exits are No. 1 and 2 in the northeast corner of the square.
