Huandao Road

Huandao Road is a main road that goes right around Xiamen Island in Xiamen, Fujian Province. With a total length of 43 kilometers, it connects Siming District and Huli District of Xiamen City. Its code is X401 (county-level expressway) and it is made up of two sections: East Huandao Road and South Huandao Road.

Huandao Road is also the coastal scenic course of the Xiamen International Marathon, which is known as the most beautiful marathon course in the world. The locals also call it the five-color road as the scenery includes the blue sea, the golden sand, the green grass, the red course and the gray expressway. Cycling along the road with the ocean waves slapping right next to the road and being caressed by the breeze is definitely a pleasure.

Highlights and Attractions:

Self-driving route: Drive toward the Yunding Tunnel on the island and enter Sept 8th (the day on which the China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) is held) Golden Key onto the trunk road of Huandao Road (Xiamen International Conference & Exhibition Center, or XICEC). Make the U-turn in 500 m and get out from the side road.

When you step into Zengcuo An Bay, you will immediately discover the calligraphy square that covers about 30,000 m2. The square is designed as three large sections and eight landscape zones based on the themes of the Four Treasures of the Study, Discussions from Articles, Calligraphy Works from the Late Literati, and Kiosks in the Sea of Arts. Corridors, flower stands, viewing platforms and other carriers are utilized. The natural, simple style invites tourists to step into it and have a short break.

Colorful Road

On August 23, 1998, the first colored road was built in the Huangcuo section of Huandao Road. The Huangcuo section of Huandao Road is a demonstration section of the "Gold Coast" in the eastern part of Ludao. New technology was introduced from abroad for the red pavement with a length of 3,400 meters. Its general coverage is 12,750 m2. The first red pavement ever built in China, along with the blue sea, blue sky and white clouds has formed a colorful landscape along the eastern coast of Ludao.

Music Score Sculpture

On the isolation strip of Huandao Road near Hulishan Fortress, the music score of Wave of Gulangyu was made into a sculpture. The music sculpture is 247.59 meters long and was completed on September 8, 1998 by Xiamen Road and Bridge Art Engineering Company. This sculpture with artistic features and regional characteristics has become the main attraction on Huandao Road. In November 2000, it was listed as the world's longest music score sculpture in the Guinness Book.
