Pingyao Highlights Tour

Upon your arrival in Pingyao, you will be greeted by your professional private guide at the train station exit, holding a sign with your name. A comfortable tourist vehicle with an experienced driver will be waiting to transfer you to your pre-booked hotel in the ancient town.

After check-in, embark on a half-day tour of China's best-preserved ancient city.

First stop is Rishengchang, China's first draft bank. Your guide will explain the operational model of these traditional banks, offering insights into China's banking industry 150 years ago.

Next, visit the Escort Agency Museum to learn about ancient logistics operations. Your guide will introduce the ten famous escort agencies and their guards. Notably, Pingyao is the birthplace of Xingyi Boxing, a traditional Chinese martial art that adds unique character to the escort agency culture.

As dusk approaches, climb the Ancient City Wall for a panoramic view of the old town before nightfall - a truly memorable experience.

For dinner, explore the Ming-Qing Street area, the most vibrant section of the ancient town, beautifully illuminated by traditional lanterns in the evening.

Note: High-speed trains from Beijing and Xi'an typically arrive in Pingyao at noon or early evening. The itinerary may be adjusted according to your arrival time.

Begin your day at Shuanglin Temple, a 10-minute drive from Pingyao. As part of Pingyao's World Heritage listing, the temple houses invaluable treasures including Tang Dynasty sophora trees, Song Dynasty stone tablets, Ming Dynasty bells, and over 2,000 painted clay sculptures. Known as "China's Ancient Sculpture Museum," it offers a remarkable display of ancient artistry.

After visiting the temple, drive one hour south to the Wang Family Compound, stopping for lunch at a local restaurant where your guide will assist with menu selections.

The Wang Family Compound, known as the "Folk Forbidden City," showcases official residence architecture spanning 300 years. The complex covers 250,000 square meters, with three main courtyards open to visitors: Hongmen Fort, Shilu Fort, and Chongning Fort, plus the Wang Family Ancestral Hall. Spend approximately two hours exploring this architectural masterpiece.
