Yala Snow Mountain is located in the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in southwest China’s Sichuan Province and is considered holy for local Tibetans. The summit is covered in snow throughout the year, and as you trek and camp along the way, you will admire the picturesque views of the snow-capped mountaintops, crystal-clear lakes, and scores of ravines that offer colorful and charming scenery.
Your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Chengdu, then drive to Kangding (265km), approximately a 4 hour drive. You will have lunch in Kangding, and get some supplies for the next few days. Afterward, you will head to Zhonggu village, about an hour's drive where you will check-in at the Guishan Hostel (3,213 m/10,541ft). While there, you can stroll around the village or relax in the hot springs.
After breakfast, you will hike to Xindianzi Campsite (3500m/11,480ft), and through the Yala Valley. The journey is about 13 kms and will take about 6 hours. You will encounter open meadows, forests, and majestic views of snow-capped peaks along the route.
You will arrive at Xindianzi around 3 pm where you will camp on the grassland for the night.
Today will be a challenging day as you will hike 16 km, for about 7 hours. After breakfast, you will embark on your journey to Yala Youcuo Lake (3,500 m/11,485 ft), where you will hike up to Yala Pass (4,200 m/13,780 ft) and continue onto Sister Lake. There you can have spectacular views of the unspoiled water of the lake that reflects the surrounding snow-capped mountains. In the afternoon, you will arrive at Yala Youcuo Lake. Rest and enjoy this pristine campsite under the starry sky.
Today, is a little more relaxing, where you will hike 3km to take a shuttle bus and leave this location, and head to Xinduqiao, described as ‘the paradise of photography’, with boundless grassland, curved streams, rolling mountains, and Tibetan villages. Along the way, you will visit the captivating Tagong Grassland and then overnight in Zhaxi Kongsha Hostel – a Tibetan-style hostel.
Rise and shine, and make the most of your last day. You will hike 10 km for about 3 hours, and capture the magnificent view of Gongga Mountain (or Minya Konka in Tibetan), the highest mountain in Sichuan. After lunch, you will head back to Chengdu, about a 6-hour drive.

We will select the best hostels in the region for your first night and the 4th night. On day 2nd and 3rd days, you will be camping out in a private tent. Arrangements for the tent and sleeping mat will be provided. You will need to bring your sleeping bags. There is no shower facility at the campsites.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included. All cooking equipment will be provided. Please note that meals will be basic during the hiking days.
Arrangements for a horseman will be available during the hike, one horse and one horseman for 2 hikers, for a group of 3-4 hikers; we’ll arrange two horses and one horseman.
