Huangguan Escalator

The Huangguan Escalator connects Lianglukou and Chongqing Railway Station and is one of the characteristic means of transportation in Chongqing. The escalator has a total length of 112 meters, an inclination of 30 degrees, and runs at a speed of 0.75 meters per second. It was completed and put into operation in 1996.

The maximum one-way passenger carrying capacity of the Huangguan Escalator is 13,000 person-times per hour, and it is the second longest one-level slope escalator in Asia.

After taking the Crown Escalator, you can go to the nearby Jianxingpo Stairway. It is one of the most magnificent stone staircases in Chongqing. It connects Lianglukou and Caiyuanba. It is olive-shaped, about 20 meters wide at the widest point and about 8 meters wide at the narrowest point. There are a total of 209 steps. There are shops scattered on both sides of the stone staircase, and it is very lively.

There are many popular attractions near the Crown Escalator. After exiting the escalator, you can walk directly to the Song Qingling's Former Residence Exhibition Hall. This small building covers an area of 1,200 square meters and a construction area of 760 square meters. In addition to the main building and the back building, it also has its own air-raid shelter. Its highlight is that there is a hidden air-raid shelter behind the house. The interior decoration is mainly dark walnut-colored wooden furniture and finishes, with some small carvings, which is very delicate.

The China Three Gorges Museum is about one kilometer away from the Huangguan Escalator. Its architecture is unique, solemn, and integrates traditional and modern elements. At present, the museum houses more than 115,000 sets of cultural relics (with the number of individual pieces exceeding 280,000), including a large number of cultural relics from the Paleolithic Age to modern and contemporary times.

In the section of Bayu culture, exquisite cultural relics such as bronze wares and pottery wares demonstrate the wisdom of the ancients. In the exhibition area of Three Gorges culture, physical objects, pictures, and models show the scenery of the Three Gorges and the greatness of the Three Gorges Project. The museum is of great significance in inheriting history and spreading culture. It is an ideal place to have an in-depth understanding of the cultural context of Chongqing and the Three Gorges region.
