Legend has it that the ancient hero Houyi shot down nine suns that scorched the earth. One of them fell in Harbin and what is now Sun Island. Built in 2008, the Sun Island Scenic Area is a national 5A-level tourist attraction integrating Russian customs, ice and snow art, and sun culture. Here visitors can see exquisite snow sculptures, unique Russian architecture, closely observe wildlife, and immerse themselves in nature.
Just outside the Snow Fair is the Russian Style Town. Here visitors can see the most distinctive Russian architectural scenery, during the day, they can visit houses restored with Russian architectural features, taste freshly baked lipa, and even get involved in the production process of Russian bread. There is also a gallery with different styles of Russian paintings. At three o'clock in the afternoon, visitors can enjoy a wonderful ballet performance.
The Snow Sculpture Expo is the birthplace of Asian snow-sculpture art, where visitors can enjoy many exquisite snow sculpture works of art. At the gate of the Sun Island Scenic Area, visitors can see a snowman with a red scarf. Once visitors enter the scenic area, they can see snow sculptures up to 100 meters long and 30 meters high. Flying birds and freely growing plum blossoms are intertwined, symbolizing unity and harmony. Also, there are eight galloping snow horses, symbolizing perseverance in the face of difficulties. In addition, there are snow sculptures of iconic attractions in various Asian countries, such as Mount Fuji in Japan, Hanok in South Korea, and even snow sculptures depicting various ice and snow sports.
Amber is a special fossilized resin that takes thousands of years to form. In the Jin Ran Russian Amber Museum within the Sun Island scenic area, visitors can see numerous amber-carved artworks. Upon entering the museum, they can see the world's largest amber raw stone, weighing 3,800 grams. On either side of the corridor are paintings crafted from amber. Further inside is the amber clock gifted to China by Russia. In addition, The museum features an amber sculpture, Xianglong Arhat, that has won the Tiangong Award (the highest art award in jade carving in China). Here visitors can admire exquisite amber carvings and learn about plants and insects preserved in amber thousands of years ago.
The Sun Island Cold Wild Animal Zoo is a special zoo integrating tourism and science research. There are more than 100 species of animals here, and if visitors are lucky, they can see the amazing spectacle of birds in flight. Visitors can also feed the animals up close with the help of the keepers. Among the park’s lively residents are two lively star-like black bears in the park. They love to jump around and down during their rest time. They are often excited when visitors arrive. They even perform dances, wanting to attract visitors to feed them.
