Xin'an River Binshui Tourist Area

Xin'an River Coastal Improvements Project between the sightseeing cable-stayed bridge and the banks of the lake can be divided into ten scenic spots, namely, ‘Profile of Woods’, ‘Watercraft Coming Home’, ‘Tunxi Wharf’, ‘Dam Site Square’, ‘Villages at the Lakefront’, ‘Grand Screen Walls’, ‘Wetland Plank Road’, ‘Sculptures Carved Out of a Cliff’, ‘Hui Style Water Street’ and ‘Distance View from Shan Pavilion’. These spots are closely related to the historical resources and Hui's traditional culture. People may link those places to the events and people in the old dynasties. The landscape made up of the ten spots is like a new picture scroll of Xin'an River, the mother river of Huangshan City.

  • Address: 160 meters south of the intersection of Binjiang East Road and Sangyuan Road, Tunxi District, Huangshan City, Anhui, China. (Tunxi Wharf)
  • Opening hours: the cruiser sails at 10:00, 13:00 and 15:00 in the day time and at 19:10 and 20:10 in the night time. Note: When the tide reaches the upper reaches of Qiantang River, that is Xin'an River, and the cruise service will be closed.
  • The best time to visit: all year around. The section of Xin'an River in the Huangshan Scenic Area looks gorgeous in the sunset for tourists on the cruiser.
  • How to get there:
    Take the Bus No. 1 or No. 12 and get off at Hubian (Riverside) Stop. Walk along the lake for 200 meters in a southeasterly direction and another 800 meters along Binjiang East Road in a northeasterly direction to reach Tunxi Wharf.

1.Grand Screen Walls

These are each made up of three walls. The total length is 108 meters. Each wall covers an area of 800 m2 and the general area is 1600 m2. It is currently the biggest Hui Style screen wall. Basso-relievo in the front walls are about historical people and stories. The picture scroll of Xin'an Jiang waters and mountains are engraved in the back walls. The main wall is titled with ‘Hui Merchants Always Contribute to the Prosperity of A Town’ and the side walls tell the tale of local historical figures such as ‘Emperor Qianlong Visits Jiangnan Region’, ‘Four Great Anhui Troupes Going to Beijing’ and ‘Hometown celebration are told’.

2.Watercrafts Coming Home

This square is divided into two layers. The ground is constructed into a watercraft shape square covering an area of 36 thousand sq. ft. And the theme sculpture titled "Watercrafts Coming Home" sits on the second floor. Writer Mr. Yu Dafu once roamed in Tunxi. He wrote his renowned passage “Night Mooring at Tunxi in Xin'an River”. His four-line poem depicts the houses lined up along the clear Xin'an Water; Several nights spent on the boat at the riverside keeps reminding him of the Yangzhou City far off.

3.Villages at the Lakefront

As a well-planned scenic spot, people may well find their need for sightseeing, cuisine, entertainment, shopping and accommodation are all met here. The traditional Hui villages are embracing the new tourist industry. Numerous ancient relics that carry Hui culture are meeting the tourists.

4.A Long Corridor against Profile of Woods

As a scene in the Xin'an River Costal Improvements Project, the long corridor is a good epitome of Hui Style ancient architecture and culture of Chinese corridors and pavilions. Sakura woods, Hui Style architectures and antique long corridors are all parts of a glorious scene. The mountains, the river, the corridor, the woods and the ancient architectures are all the contents within one picture as drawn by the nature. Birds and fish add more vitality to it.
