Located in northeast of Beijing, about 2 hours’ drive from downtown Beijing, Mutianyu section is becoming a well-known part of the Wall. It’s a less crowded section than the well renovated Badaling Great Wall. With the cable car, chairlift and toboggan ride, it’s the ideal place to discover with your family. Both seniors and children can find their own favorite ride to get onto the Wall.

Full itinerary for Beijing Private One Day Tour
Your private tour guide and driver will pick you up from the hotel lobby around 8am. After 2 hours’ driving, you will get to the parking lot of Mutianyu Great Wall. Use the washroom before you get on the shuttle bus to the cable car station. The shuttle bus will drive for about 10 to 15 minutes.
The cable car will lead you to the Great Wall. The experience of stepping out onto the wall from the enclosed area will be unforgettable. The panoramic view of the Wall is truly breathtaking. Walking through the watchtowers and listening to historic stories is like reading a Chinese history book. We chose the Mutianyu section of the Wall as it’s less crowded compared to the Badaling section. With the flourishing grasses and dense forests surrounding it, this has been called ‘the most beautiful part of the Wall’. A toboggan ride down is a fun part if you are travelling with kids.
You will have lunch in a local restaurant near the Wall. Drive another hour; you will visit Dingling, one of the Ming Tombs. Dingling is the only tomb where you can see the underground palace among the 13 tombs. Pay a visit to the Sacred Way. The statues on each side of the way are striking. The kneeling (honoring) animals followed by the standing animals are ready to follow the emperor to their final resting place.
The day trip ends when you are taken back to your hotel around 6PM.
Good to know:
- Washroom is not available on the Wall. Please use it at the parking lot before taking the shuttle bus.
- Comfortable walking shoes, sun cream, hat and sunglasses are recommended.
