Anhui Huangmei Opera Theatre

Its predecessor was the Anhui Huangmei Opera Troupe founded in April 1954. In 1988, it was expanded into a theater. Over the past 40-odd years, the theater has gathered generations of outstanding Huangmei Opera artists. Elder-generation artists like Yan Fengying and Wang Shaofang promoted Huangmei Opera from the folk in Anhui to the whole country and overseas, reaching a glorious peak. Outstanding middle-aged and young actors such as Ma Lan and Huang Xinde have made Huangmei Opera a widely-loved genre among audiences at home and abroad today. As an important part of Anhui Province's intangible cultural heritage, Huangmei Opera, with its unique artistic charm and profound historical heritage, is deeply loved by the general public. As an important inheritor and display window of Huangmei Opera, the Anhui Huangmei Opera Theatre has always been committed to the inheritance and development of Huangmei Opera art.

Anhui Huangmei Opera Art Center

Huangmei Opera is a representative model of outstanding traditional opera type in Anqing City. It is one of the five major traditional opera styles in China, and is known to both Chinese and foreigners. It also serves as a cultural emblem of Anqing City. With the aim of establishing a comprehensive Huangmei Opera art center, which contributes to both cultural enrichment and economic development. To a large extent, it is the prominent professional theater for Huangmei Opera in Anqing City with unique and modern stage installations and comfortable audience conditions. This theatre stages classic Huangmei Opera plays, as well as newly-created masterpieces all meant to let the audience enjoy in full the unique, melodious charm of Huangmei Opera. All of this will enable the audiences to sink into the touching plots and beautiful singing.

Tongcheng Theatre

The Tongcheng Huangmei Opera Troupe was founded in 1952 and is an art performance troupe directly under the Tongcheng Culture, Tourism and Sports Bureau. The Tongcheng Theatre was renovated and upgraded in July 2023. It has served as the largest stage for performances, providing venues for social group activities for decades, earning it with much credit for promoting traditional culture and developing Huangmei Opera culture.

Huangmei Opera Hall

The Huangmei Opera Hall is divided into two parts: the front area of the guild hall is a public-welfare art exhibition hall, displaying a large number of old photos related to Huangmei Opera, allowing audiences and tea-drinkers to get a preliminary understanding of the development history of Huangmei Opera. The center of the guild hall is the performance hall. On both sides of the medium-sized stage dedicated to performances, big red lanterns are hung, adding a festive atmosphere. The lobby draws on the art of ancient teahouses, with mahogany tables and chairs being solemn and elegant, and can accommodate more than 200 audiences at a time.

Drawing on the art of ancient teahouses, the viewing area is divided into two floors. The first-floor hall is close to the stage, enabling close-range appreciation of Huangmei Opera performances. On the second floor of the guild hall, there are three large private boxes with independent stands, from where the panoramic view of the stage can be seen, allowing the audience to experience the unique charm of Huangmei Opera from various angles.

There are three portions of the Huangmei Opera Grand Theater: the grand theater, the small theater, and commercial areas, The Grand Theater of Huangmei Opera is designed in the shape of a plum blossom. The roof of the Huangmei Opera Grand Theater is likened to a big plum blossom blooming on the shore of Yi'ai Lake. Exhibitions of opera, ballet, musicals, drama, and more from across the globe are hosted at the Huangmei Opera Grand Theatre. This plays a major role in the conservation and development of Huangmei Opera, promotion of dramatic culture, and enhancement of people's cultural experience.
