Wuhan Weather and What is the best time to visit?

Wuhan belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate zone with abundant rainfall, sufficient sunshine, four distinct seasons, hot summers and mild winters. The lowest average temperature is 0.4℃ in January and the highest average temperature is 32.6℃ in July. In early summer, when it is the season of Meiyu, the rain is relatively concentrated.

Spring

Weather: Spring in Wuhan sees a gradual increase in temperature, from the winter cold to the summer heat. Despite the increase in rainfall, there are some aspects that render this season favorable for outdoor activities.

Clothing: Spring in Wuhan can be capricious, so it makes sense to wear layers. It is simple enough to add or remove clothing as the case may be with the fluctuation of temperature. For example, you could wear a sweater or jacket if it is cold and remove it when the weather warms up. As for rain, especially as spring sets in full swing, it is prudent to carry an umbrella or raincoat.

Things to do: Spring in Wuhan provides plenty of options for activities. You can visit parks and gardens and watch as the scenery is once again brought to life by the blooming flowers. The East Lake Scenic Area is one of the most popular attractions. It has the largest plum blossom garden in China. There is relative humidity at an extremely high level, at 80%. Sunshine duration reaches a peak of 7.8 hours, while the UV index is up to 11, requiring protection against sunburn and heat-related diseases.

Clothing: Given the hot and humid summer weather, appropriate clothing includes T-shirts, shorts, or skirts. It is advisable to carry an umbrella or rain gear on days when rain is predicted.

Things to do: As the weather in summer is stuffy, you might want to stay indoors or visit some cool summer resorts, such as Hubei Provincial Museum, Hubei Art Museum, or Lingbo Gate. Weather: In autumn, temperatures clearly decrease from summer highs in Wuhan. There is also a decline in rainfall. Sunshine hours also decrease moderately, and the UV index drops to an agreeable 7, making it an excellent time for outdoor activities.

Clothing: During the day, summer clothing suffices, but in the evenings, long-sleeve shirts are advisable. When spending extended periods outdoors on sunny days, it's recommended to wear a sun hat, sunglasses, and skin-protecting clothing.

Things to do: East Lake Scenic Area is a delightful place to hike or picnic. Taking one of the many Yangtze River Ferry cruises in Wuhan is a unique and economical experience that can fit into just about any budget. This is an experience no visitor to Wuhan should miss. A ferry ride is well worth the fare for its spectacular views on both banks of the river. Also, make sure to stop by Liangdao Street and indulge in all kinds of delicious food.

Winter

Weather: With winter already in Wuhan, the temperature has dipped quite often. Although most days are sunny or slightly cloudy, the presence of smog makes the sky look hazy or overcast. To add to this, the air quality is rather low, amidst a serious problem of pollution. It is advisable that asthmatics and those suffering from other health ailments visit Wuhan in the autumn or in the spring when the pollution is at a lower level. Those who do travel to Wuhan in winter should consult the weather forecast frequently for reliable information.

Clothing: Wear a thick jacket to keep yourself warm. Dress in layers since there is a significant temperature variation from day to night. Besides, since some buildings are air-conditioned and others are not, you may have to keep your jacket on indoors.

Things to do: If you choose to travel to Wuhan in winter, you can go to Liangdao Street and Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street to enjoy the pipping hot Wuhan cuisine. You can immerse yourself in Wuhan's "guozao" breakfast culture and the unique local customs, traditions and folkways on these streets.

Considering the climatic conditions, the late spring and early autumn months seem to be the most favorable for traveling to Wuhan. These seasons are warm with pleasant temperatures, but they are slightly cooler than the peak of summer, with markedly lower precipitation levels: still humid, but not sultry. The last week of April and the first half of October are the best for a holiday to Wuhan; sunny hours are more plentiful then and the UV index is moderate.
